Rameshwaram(TN) and Ramagiri(Chittoor Dist ,AP)- The myth linking these 2 places!!!

According to Indian mythology, after defeating Ravana, Lord Rama and Sita had performed pooja on the sea shore to Lord Siva and the place got the name Rameswaram ( Rama+Eshwaram) which means Lord Rama performed rituals to Lord Eeswara(Shiva). And for performing rituals, the linga is being made of sand by Sita Devi since they were running out of time while waiting for Hanuman. Rama sent Hanuman to Kasi(Varanasi) to bring a Siva Linga to perform the pooja. He didnt return for a long time so they decided to perform the pooja by making a sand Linga since the pooja had to be performed in the stipulated time mentioned by sages.

What made Hanuman to delay bringing the Linga from Kaasi? The Hindu Mythology says the story. Hanuman went to Kaasi and got the divine linga. He was returning to Rameswaram. On the way he comes accross a water body called “Kaalangi Madugu” which was there on the foot hills of a small hill on the eastern ghats. He was thirsty and thinks of quenching his thirst at Kaalangi Madugu. He lands down, searches for someone to hold the Linga till he quenches his thirst. Fortunately he found a shepherd boy there and hands over the linga to him and requests to not keep it on the floor till he comes back. Hanuman drinks water and returns back to the spot where he gave linga to the shepherd but he finds the shepherd missing. He notices that the linga had been placed on the ground there. He tries to pull it out from the ground using all his strength but in vain. His main strength lies in his tail and uses it to pull the linga out, he fails this time too. The statue of Bhairava falls in his eye-sight. He realises that its all the magical work of Bhairava and he cant do anything. The marks of his tail fall on the linga. Then he realises he is running out of time and goes back to Kasi to get another linga. Before he reaches, the pooja starts to the Linga made of sand.

The place were Rama and Sita performed pooja is “Rameshwaram” located around 600 km south of Chennai. The place where the 1st linga bought by Hanuman got placed is “Ramagiri” located 70 km north east of Chennai towards Tirupati. Lord Shiva got the name of “Vaaleswara Swamy” in Ramagiri. The hill got the name Ramagiri( Rama + Giri) meaning the hill of lord rama( actually it refers to the linga which lord Rama needed). Hindu Myth says that the linga at Ramagiri is the one supposed to be performed pooja by Lord Rama and Sita at Rameswaram.

A temple was built here by the pallava rulers in 9th Century AD to Lord ValeeswaraSwamy and the holy pond gets uninterrupted water source from the hills(Kalangi Madugu). Its been told that the water didnt stop even when there was drought in the region. Whenever I vist the temple at Ramagiri I feel something special may be because the linga has a relation with Ramayanam.

 

Love is beautiful!!!

Love – The only thing which makes people go crazy always. Its a nice feeling. Some people call true love and namesake love. I term love as true one and what people call name sake love is just infactuation or lust or both.

No one can tell when love erupts in one’s heart. Love on parents starts from childhood itself. Many people dont express it towards thier parents or siblings or children even when they love them to the core. In most of the Indian families at childhood siblings wont show love on each other and will be fighting always like arch rivals, but when they get matured, they will be looking opposite to what they did during thier childhood. The same happens in case of parents too. Very few people express it from the beginning stage itself.

The “Love” which is most spoken in this world is the one happening between a guy and a girl which may or may not end up in marriage due to several constraints. But its a very nice feeling and can create lots of wonders, can change people or spoil people too!!! Love on mother comes because she gave birth , love on father comes because he takes care of children and family, love on siblings comes because they have blood relation and grow together from beginning. Love on friends comes because they understand each other from beginning and bond thier relationship. How love comes for a guy on a girl or for a girl on a guy without any of these? Its a billion dollar question.

Few people try to say reasons like the beauty of the girl, handsome looks of the guy, friendly nature, easy going, nice character, thinking on same lines, earning a lot , an infactuation which turns into love trying to understand eachother. And people fail to recognise that when people try to understand eachother thinking just infactuation as love and try to build up thier love, it ends in a break up in most of the cases.  But there is something behind starting of love between a guy and a girl or vice versa.

A guy meets a girl for first time, something he feels inside and thinks he had fallen in love with that girl. The girl might feel the same too or else she might feel nothing at first sight of that guy. Similarly , a girl looks a guy at first sight and feels she loves him, the guy may or may not feel the same. But the unanswered question is what makes people feel like this? So far no one had told at what moment they really felt the guy cant live without his girl or the girl felt she cant live without his guy. And if you ask any guy or girl why he/she had fallen in love with that particular girl/guy, no one answers perfectly.

In my view, love starts with infactuation and later on develops into a strong bonding between two hearts. How fast it develops or how slow it happens depends on a lot of factors like the understanding nature of both, the similarities and dissimilarities of both, thier surroundings, the nature of being bought up,trust and few other factors. Its a sweet feeling which makes one feel without their companion they cant live even a moment. Its the thing of understanding the companion and living for them with few adjustments without compromising one’s induviduality or character.

Love can create wonders with anyone all over or else it can spoil anyone. The power of love can do anything. Can turn a mediocre person to extra ordinary, a lazy one to super active one or it can do vice versa also.

If the relationship blossoms because of any of the following reasons alone it cant be termed as love…

The person looks so beautiful

The person earns well/settled well in life

The person comes from a rich family and spends well/has good background

The person is stylish/talented

The person studies/works/performs well in his duties

The person is from same caste/religion/region

Just because the person proposed, its been accepted and relation is being built.

The person buys  and gives everything desired

This might look funny and awkward to many but if the relationship gets buit for any of these reasons alone, it can never be called as “Love” because the above ones are not permanent in life. Physical beauty goes off after a certain age, Talent cant reap benefits always, socio economic status might not stay permanent, and if its because of richness or earning well, when the wallet becomes empty, the relationship comes to an END. The other reasons are not worth enough to talk about.

If both the persons involved in the relationship understands each other completely, the relationship becomes “Love” and it will be forever…..

 

If Ponniyin Selvan novel made as a movie…….

Those who are interested in reading tamil novels might have come across the historical novel Ponniyin Selvan written by Kalki R Krishnamurthy half a century years ago as a weekly column in Kalki Weekly magazine. Later it was published as a novel of 5 volumes. Many readers have admired the novel for its way of depiction,content and the characterization.

Recently there had been talks for making the novel into a movie by legendary director Manirathnam but it didnt materialize. Mani is a creative director and can depict the novel into a film but it cant be done as a single part of 3 hours duration in my view. It should be done as 2 parts of 3 hours each atleast to incorporate all the main tiwsts and the gist of the story.

The main characters of Ponniyin Selvan which needs extraordinary performance by the artists are:

Vanthiyathevan

ArulMozhi Varman

Aadhitha Karigaalan

Aazhwarkadiyaan

Pazhuvettarayar

Poonguzhali

Manimegalai

Of these characters I guess Kamalhasan would be the most apt for Vanthiyathevan and Vikram can suit Aaditha karigaalan well. Surya can do justice to ArulMozhi Varman and PrakashRaj to Pazhuvettarayar role. For Aazhwarkadiyaan , Karthi can fit as well as Sathyaraj. I dont believe others can do justice to these roles since these are most challenging characters and needs perfect depection.

 

The Heroes of IPL’11

IPL 4 had witnessed the emerging of many unknown heroes and few known IPL heroes of the past re-emerging this season. There are few uncapped Indian players who had proved they are consistent and can create wonders.Few noteworthy hereos of this edition are.

Un-Capped Indian Players:

Ambati Tirupati Rayudu(Mumbai Indians)

A small recap of the cricketing history of Ambati Tirupati Rayudu proves he has been a consistent player at all the levels he had played. He had been a consistent rungetter for the Indian U19 Squad almost a decade ago. Later he played for Hyderabad Ranji Team in the domestic circuit and performed well. Then due to some issues, he moved to the Andhrapradesh Ranji Team for which he had proved his consistency and his entry into the team had helped it to qualify for the round 2 after a long wait. Then he shifted his gears to the ICL and had been star for the Hyderabad heroes and ICL India XI. After coming out of the rebel league, MI had taken him last season which had been a fruitful season for both Rayudu and MI. Rayudu stood as the second leading run getter for MI after Sachin Tendulkar. The consistency continued this season too and had scored enough amount of runs(380 runs in 14 games, 2nd leading for MI after Sachin). He had kept wickets for MI on both these seasons as an occasional wicket keeper. He had performed for Baroda Ranji Team this domestic Season too!!!! What else is needed more from him? The six of last ball in the last league game against KKR had showed how good finisher he is and reminded of Miandad’s act at Sharjah 25 years back!!! His consistency in all forms of the game(First Class,List A & T20) proves he is in the list of Future Indian Cricket’s talent batch. Many expected he would get selected for the Windies tour but the selectors proved the other way. Hope he gets his chance soon and gets sticked into the squad for a long time.

Rahul Sharma(Pune Warriors)

Its surprising to see the rise of Leggie Rahul Sharma this season. He had 16 scalps in 14 games at an awsome economy rate of under 6. Only in a couple of matches he conceded more than 7 runs per over in his completed spell and he had finished his quota in 5 consecutive games conceding less than 6 RPO. Pune Warriors might have ended up at 9th spot in the table but Rahul Sharma is undoubtedly the star. Have to wait and see when the doors for him get opened into the national squad and how he can control the batsman for 60 legitimate deliveries in the limited overs format.

Paul Valthaty(Kings XI)

Another surprising Star of this IPL is Paul Valthaty of Kings XI. With consistent run scoring throughout the season he had showed promise as future of Indian Cricket. To my surprise his selection into the squad looks so astonishing with just a List A game under his belt. Due to injury he had been out of the domestic circuit for a long time and back into IPL squad. He had scored more than 450 runs this season in 14 games and answered all critics who called his 120 of 63 balls against CSK as 1 match wonder. He followed it with good scores through out. Also he had got few wickets with his medium pace bowling too. His 4/29 against Chargers along with 72 of 40 balls proved his allround skills. But his -ve aspect had been the dropped catches. In the last league game against the Chargers he is the most economical bowler of Kings XI with 1/24 in 4 overs but his dropped catches had proved fatal for other bowlers with Dhawan and Ravi Teja hitting all the way.If he improves his catching , he is among the promising future Indian Cricket talent.

Iqbal Abdulla(KKR)

What Rahul Sharma is for Pune is Abdulla for KKR. He had been consistent in containing runs in the first 6 overs as well as middle overs. He had got 16 scals in the league stage at a good economy ,average and strike rate and had been instrumental in KKR’s march into the Playoff’s. He has been the pick of KKR bowlers. The left arm spin adds strength to him and he is showing good signs with this consistent bowling performances through out the past 1 year in domestic circuit too. Hope he gets a call for the squad if Indian 15 man squad needs an extra spinner.

Manoj Tiwary(KKR)

Tiwary had a great succesful IPL season this time being handy with the bat. He scored past 50 in 3 games and had been consistent run getter. When Abdulla took the charge of the bowling department, its Tiwary who had been consistent in the batting along with big names like Gambhir and Kallis. He had been picked into the national side but denied a chance of making into the playing XI. Tiwary has lots of domestic experience and he has been consistent in all forms of the game which makes him into the selectors list.

Along with these names , the Indian squad drop outs Venugopala Rao, RP Singh,Amit Mishra,Piyush Chawla, Ishant Sharma had put up good performances through out the season. Abu Nechim shone in a couple of games and Ashok Chavan had been economical in few games. Bargav Bhatt took wickets but conceded at 8 runs per over overall this season. Bhatt had been the leading wicket taker in First Class in Indian Domestic circuit last season with 55 scalps in 9 games.

 

Impact of YS Jagan in AP Politics

Many might wonder what the impact could be made by YS Jagan in AP politics because he is not a film star or a senior well known party member or he has lesser public image and how can he create impact with his new party before the by-elections held recently for Kadapa LokSabha and Pulivendula Legislative Assembly seats. The thumping majority obtained by YS Jagan and YS Vijayalakshmi had raised many eyebrows. For an outsider, this will look like a miracle. For Andhrapradesh citzens, it looked like an unexpected thing happened.

The total electoral of the state as of now is roughly around 5.-5.5 crs and even if we consider 85% of the votes get polled in the next elections, the total no of votes polled will be around 4.25-4.75 crs. The votes got by YSR Congress party in this by election is 6.87 lakhs and it counts to 1.5% of the total electoral of the state. The stronghold he has in his own district Kadapa is known to everyone in the state and its the “Kanchu Kota(golden fort)” of YSR and now its to YS Jagan.

Kadapa district has 10 MLA seats of which 7 come under Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency. Of these 7 seats , at least 5 seats would go to YSR Congress Party, if the party wins few seats here and there, the total count would stand somewhere between 20-30, it can create a big impact in the state if there is no clear majority to any party, and if few smaller parties join with Jagan, the impact would be a lot more. Its tougher to win against AIMIM in old city region of Hyderabad, similarly its tougher to win against YSR congress party in Kadapa district.

In 2009 elections, PRP and LOK Satta Contested in all the 294 legislative seats of the state and they secured 16 and 6 % respectively. This had a bigger impact in the election results and helped the ruling party to retain its power. Had PRP and LS got 10-20 seats more than the 19 seats they got(PRP 18,LS 1), the scenario would have been different in the state. And Jagan could get more better and will get around 20% of the total vote share all over the state.

Merging of PRP with Congress had given INC a little advantage but Jagan coming out of the party and 30 MLA’s directly backing him ( of the 156 MLA’s INC has now) shows signs of these MLA’s going to contest for YSR Congress next season. Still 3 years to go, the state has lot of political games to witness… As of now, the formation of YSR congress party looks a big threat to the Congress and TDP parties.Lets wait and see how YSR Congress is going to change the political scenario in the state.
