IPL 6 – SunRisers Vs Warriors review

The first 2 games in IPL 6 had been fantastic , both being close finishes. KKR and RCB prevailing over their opponents DD and MI respectively.

The third game of this IPL , between Sunrisers and Warriors , has become significant for the following reasons.

  • Both teams finished at bottom 2 places in last season, with Warriors being the wooden spoon holders.
  • Both teams have certain things as new this season. Mathews is new captain of Warriors, and Sunrisers have a fresh start with new owners, with Sun group winning the bids, after DC was defunct-ed.

Both the teams are fighting to have a good start this season. Last season, Warriors lost both their games to the Hyderabad team.

We have to wait and watch whether Warriors will take their last season revenge , or Sunrisers will have  their winning ways against warriors continue.

Uppal stadium, the home ground of Hyderabad IPL team, has not been so lucky for Deccan Chargers, The change in team name to Sunrisers Hyderabad is giving some hopes and sentiments for the home team, that their luck will turn in their way this time.

Players to look for:

Warriors:

Yuvaraj has been star player for Warriors, and after a strong come back from Cancer, he has been good in shorter form of the game. His contribution to the team will be crucial this time.

Steve Smith has been good for PWI last season, hope he continues his willow speaking in the middle order.

Uthappa has to prove himself once again as a run machine and give good start to the team

Mathews has the responsibility of playing the crucial role of defensive, attacking batsman and a captain. His bowling has to be asset to the team

Bhuvaneshwar has been find of the Indian pace attack, his medium pace and swing has to fetch few wickets every game for his team.

Sunrisers

Sangakkara has to score runs this season and give enough runs on board for his team to defend.

Parthiv has been good in the domestic season and his performance has to continue for his IPL team with the willow and gloves , if he is given that job too.

Dale Steyn has the responsibility of attacking from the word go. He has to repeat his last year performances.

Ishant has to support Steyn and give enough breakthroughs for the team.

DwarakaRaviteja in absence of Dhawan, he is likely to open the innings for Sunrisers, and his willow has to speak about his contribution for the team.

Amit Mishra has to be among the wicket takers of this season, both to prove himself and make his team win games and move further.

Cameron White has been good with the willow , in the second half of last season , and his performance has to continue for the goodness of the team.

7 am Arivu- My Take

The latest movie of Surya under the direction of A.R.Murugadoss “7 am Arivu” is something different from the regular mass masala flicks of Tamil film industry. It is a concept oriented commercial entertainer linking the history of 6th Century Prince to the hero who is actually from the bloodline of the Prince.

Terms like DNA,Bloodline, DNA Memory mapping are very new to the audience and it might take some time for them to get into the track. Usually its the Universal Hero Kamal Hasan who comes up with movies of this kind and now Surya had taken his turn.

This movie also has something that reveals how advanced technologies India had in the past that went into burial due to the colonisation and were copied by other countries who are teaching us the same technology now.

Dont expect a typical tamil movie when you enter the movie hall, go with a open mind and then only you will get the feel of the movie. An excellent work by the entire unit.

Editing should have been more crisp in the 2nd half to make the movie ” The best”.

This movie made me re-think about the Indian History and the technology it had. Einstein quoted right, If indians were not there, no scientific invention would have been possible. To be frank, every technological advancement was result of Indian technlogical advancement. Now all the intelligent indians are trying to settle down in foriegn countries and Brain Drain is affecting India a lot. This movie made me realise how all the countries are dependent on India and Indians.

Bhajji ( Harbhajan Singh) & The feat of 400 Test Scalps!

Lot of people wonder how Bhajji had achieved 400 test wickets since they think Bhajji is a mediocre bowler. But for few cricket fans like me , Bhajji always looks like a great spinner of his era and of course that is true to greater extent. Statistics might not reflect exactly what he was and many people keep criticising him for the stats showing his strike rate of 67 and average of 31. This is the lowest among all those who had reached 400 test scalps but it is not dependent on Bhajji alone. Bhajji belonged to an era where these figures are pretty normal for a spinner.

Bhajji, hailing from small Indian city,Jallandhar from Punjab, with no cricketing background entered into the national squad at a very young age of 18 during the 1998 Australian tour of India as a back up spinner to Anil Kumble ( who is the best ever Indian spinner till date). He possessed all the abilities to become the lead Indian spinner in future and did so. India , being the home of spinners had produced many and few names that I remember are Vinoo Mankand, Subash Gupte, Chandra,Venkat,Prasanna, Bedi, Maninder, Raju,Chauhan, Siva, Ravi Shastri, Nilesh Kulkarni, Sarandeep Singh, Mishra,Ohja, Hirwani,Sanghvi,Bahutule ( Who still holds the world record for best figures in Test Debut). And how many names had lasted for more than 25 tests or 100 scalps? Very few and only 2 had lasted for more than 400 scalps( Anil & Bhajji).

The Career of Bhajji :

Bhajji debuted against the mighty Aussies in the 3rd test of 1998 Aussies tour of India at Bangalore and had 2 scalps under the shadow of Anil. Till the 2000-01 Australian tour of India, Bhajji had a mediocre test figures with 22 scalps in 8 games. The Australian series gave him the best break through of his career. He shouldered the responsiblity of the Indian spin attack in the absence of Anil. The first test in which India lost by 10 wickets he took 4 wickets and showed few signs of an attacking spinner. Then came the match at Eden Gardens, the best ever Indian test victory till date as rated  by many Indian cricketers and fans. He took the first ever Hat-trick by an Indian bowler in tests( later Irfan joined the list with a couple of hat-tricks). He ended with 7 for 133 in 1st innings and Aussies posted 445. Indians got bowled out for 171 and they had 274 run defecit. The Indians are asked to follow on by Steve Waugh and dreamt for 17th Successive win and a test series victory in India. Laxman and Dravid denied thier chances and Bhajji with Sachin’s part time partnership breakers gave India a victory, Bhajji took 13 scalps in the match. In the series decider at Chennai,Bhajji took 15 scalps and guided India to victory. 32 wickets in 3 matches turned the career of Bhajji.

After this series , till 2009, Bhajji was under the shadow of Anil as second attacking Indian spinner and both shared wickets. If these 2 had played seperately for India, unlike Warne and Murali, Anil would have got a 100 scalps more atleast or else Bhajji would have got 500 scalps by now. This makes the difference too.

Another factor to be told of is the way of change in batting scenario the test matches had got in the past 5-6 years, the scoring rate got more than 4 runs per over in most of the matches and the wickets are mostly batsmen friendly. And every team got the best attacking play-plot against all spinners. Warne,Murali and Anil had played most of thier part when most of the teams failed against spin attack whereas Bhajji, being the un-lucky had to face attacking batsmen against spin in most part of his career. All the matches played in India and the sub-continent had flat tracks and the batsman are well prepared to play against what ever the kind of bowling might be. In such cases, the bowlers need to bowl long spells to get wickets and that eventually increases their average as well as strike rate. I dont understand why people criticise the bowler alone for such playing conditions.

People always compare with other leading spinners of the past and fail to recognize the conditions and the scenario they had played in the past. Murali had got more than 60% of his wickets at home at average of 18.( around 500 of his 800 wickets), and 400 of his wickets came against the weakest batting line up against spin( Bangla,Zim,WI, Eng,NZ). Against India both Warne and Murali average 43 & 33 respectively. If they are only the best spinners why this difference of more than 10 runs per wicket against a batting line up which plays spin effectively??? Criticisers of Bhajji have no answer to this.

What ever people might say, playing close to 100 matches in 14 years for India itself is an achivement and getting 400 wickets is not an easy thing. With around 8 years of cricket left in Bhajji , he still got more chances to come close to 800 wicket mark of Bhajji as Muralitharan told only Bhajji has ability to break his 800 mark. And remember ,Bhajji was instrumental in making India the No 1 ranked Test Team which both Warne and Murali failed to do so. Its not a simple thing to do.

All the best for Bhajji to earn more and more scalps and break more records.

Falling in love!!!!!

Everyone feel that they had fallen in love with someone. But when they were asked why they had fallen in love or when they fell, there would not be a strong reply.

What makes one fall in love? Is it for the beautiful looks, or the mannerisms , or the richness, talent, skill ,character or somethig else?

Everyone has one of the above reasons. But still its lastin long only for few and ends in marriage for very few. Why this happens? Its all because they are not sure how strong and deeply they are in love and also not sure for how long they will be in the relationship.

Also few are misusing the name of love for lust and the timepass relationships they are in.

But finally only love lasts and not anyother thing which is being told as love. Love wins!!!

Tollywood trio- Tarak,Pawan,Mahesh

The present generation biggie trio of Tarak,Pawam and Mahesh had really marked thier stamina and market base in tollywood. Of these 3, pawan had entered first into tollywood followed by mahesh and tarak. These three represented konidela, gattamaneni and nandamuri clans of the industry.

Of these three, tarak had the least support from the strong base his family had established in tfi. Pawan and mahesh had been introduced as hiers of thier clans while tarak made his mark as a normal aspiring new hero.

Pawan had reasonable sucess in his first 2 films aaia and gokulamloseeta. His first hit came with tholiprema and it continued till kushi.. then he had a row of flops till jalsa and his next two movies puli and theenmar ended up as disasters. His style, martial arts, comedy timing are big plus bt his dance and dialogue delivery had been a big minus. He has good fan base among youth but not in masses. In nizam he stands first among these 3 bt moves to second place in andhra and ceded.

Mahesh is almost similar to pawan who had a mix of hits and flops. After massive hit pokiri his 3 movies bombed at boxoffice and ended up as disasters. Like pawan he lags a strong base among masses.

Tarak had a different scenario. Has good base among the masses. He is king of andhra and ceded regions but ends up 3rd in nizam area. He is slowly gaining fanbase among youth and masses with his recent flicks. He has good dialogue delivery, dance, action, humor and stands first in d race. He had a mix of hits and flops at initial stages but ended up as a safe bet bcoz of his strong mass following. After narasimhudu , shakti was at the losing end to the distributors. His films do reasonable business and it had been recovered for most of his films except andhrawala, narasimhudu,na alludu and shakti irrespective of the movie result. He has got more chances to sustain as no 1 star of tollywood. He is not only a star but an actor too!!

Its too early to talk about charan. Though bunny is delivering hits, his highest grosser is yet to cross kushi and aadhi. Prabhas looks promising but yet to join the big league.

All the heroes fans might not agree with this but this is the reality.

The lesser known team india

Its surprising to see the indian cricket team with lesser known names performing well against the Windies in the ongoing series. Ppl might take this light bcoz thw windies are a depleted side, but as far as the indian bowling and fielding is concerned, a good show is being put. The batting too is going in good form with the likes of dhawan, parthiv and rohit showing promise. Performing well on the windies wickets is something special. It had reallu given a chance for the indian bench strength to prove thier talent.. keep rocking men in blue..

Two Temples I admire most-Vedanarayana Swamy Temple,Nagalapuram & Pallikondeeswara Temple,Suruttapalli,Chittoor Dist AP!!!!

I became an ardent fanatic of Srikrishnadevaraya for only one reason- The architechtural intelligence of his regime. Besides being a poet himself( His Amukthamalyada in Telugu & Kannada, the languages he patronized had been certified a great work in Telugu and Kannada Literature), he had led to the architechtural development also. The palaces and temples built under his regime proves them a lot.

The region of Rayalaseema( some elders told me the name came from “Rayalavaari Seema” meaning the region ruled by Sri Krishnadeva raya. The forts at Chandragiri near Tirupati is told be built under his orders. It had good designs.

The reason why I started admiring him is the architechtural work posessed by two temples in north-eastern border of Chittoor district. Sri Vedavalli Sametha Vedanarayana Swamy Temple at Nagalapuram and Sri Maragathambika Sametha Pallikondeswara Swamy Temple at Suruttapalli. These 2 temples are located on the Tirupati-Chennai route Via Puttur-Pichatoor-Nagalapuram-Uthukottai-Periyapalayam-Redhills. These 2 temples are located 10 km away from each other roughly midway between Tirupati and Chennai.

Both the temples are said to be constructed in the 15th Century AD. The name “Nagalapuram” is derived from “Nagamambapuram” which was named by SriKrishna Devaraya on the memory of his mother Nagamamba after construction of Vedanarayanaswamy Temple. The temple’s main deity Vedanarayanaswamy is the first avatar of Maha Vishnu(Machcha Avatar, form of fish). The astonishing fact about the temple architechture is that during the start of summer season( end of march) when the sun rays fall on the main idol of the temple during sunset. On day 1, the rays fall on the foot, 2nd day on abdomen and 3rd day on the head portions of the idol of Lord Vedanarayanaswamy. There is no special openings available for this to happen, the architechture possess this ability of making the sun rays enter on 3 days only and that too during the start of summer season.

The architechts of Sri Krishnadevaraya had estimated the inclincation of sun rays and the change in position of sun relative to earth during the start of summer and constructed the temple according to that. Surprisingly the sun rays wont fall on the lord’s idol on any of the remaining days of the year. Its a rare feat achieved by few indian architechts. The temple has underground path to Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirupati. The swaranga path is closed for many years since lot of highly poisionus insects and reptiles are there and it would not be safe for the devotees. The temple is now under the mainatainence of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam. Brahmotsavam and Theppotsavam are the major festive celebrations in the temple. It is believed that there are loads of gold available in the swaranga marga and within the construction of the temple. 10 years ago, 14 idols had been found out in the temple premises while re-constructing the floor.

Pallikondeeswara swamy temple is of another astonishing surprise. The main diety here is Lord Siva in the form of a sleeping idol which is available only here in the entire world. Lord siva is in “Sayana Kolam” in this temple and the sclupture itself creates some unknown waves inside me. Everytime I visit the temple I feel something new with the idol and it the architechtural wonder of Raya’s regime. This temple also has a swaranga margam to Sri Kalahasteeswara temple, Srikalahasti. Hindu myth says, Lord Siva had drunk the venom emitted by Vasuki when the devas were skimming milk ocean for elixr!!!!

What I mentioned here is very little. It could be experienced only when these two temples are visited!!!!
